The Pacific Heights District of San Francisco is bordered by Cow Hollow to the north, The Presidio and Presidio Heights to the west, Lower Pacific Heights to the south, and Nob Hill to the east — good neighbors make for good neighborhoods! Some believe the terraces are a landing platform for spacecraft. Another Pacific Heights landmark that is also “out of this world” is the amazing Spreckels Mansion, which occupies a full city block between Washington, Jackson, Gough, and Octavia streets. The 55-room, 26 bathroom Spreckels mansion was completed in 1913 for sugar magnate Adolph Spreckels. The largest (at this writing) private home in San Francisco, there is also a building in the back of the mansion which houses a covered pool, which is thought to be the largest private indoor swimming pool in the country.
