While Contra Costa County can get scorching hot in the summers, Orinda is the first Contra Costa County city east of the Caldecott Tunnell to catch the breeze when the winds roll in off the bay, and its mature foliage and hilly landscape help add shade, as well, to lessen the intense summer heat. Orinda also borders Tilden Park, one of the biggest and best regional parks in the bay area.
