It was the only downtown building on the south waterfront to survive the fires -- and the firemen were all too "happy" to save it! Once that work was completed, it was thought to be many things -- one San Franciscan called it the excrement of a square dog --- and Bono of U2 called it a giant urinal (and used it as such, after first graffitting it). The "artist", Jose "Villiancourt", supposedly flew to a U2 concert in Oakland a few years later and attempted to return the favor upon the stage, but was stopped by security...
