San Anselmo is a small Marin County city with a population of about 13,000 people. San Anselmo got its start way back in 1875, when the railroad arrived and built a junction at the present-day location of downtown San Anselmo. The residents incorporated the city in 1907 (happy 100th birthday, San Anselmo!), and the small downtown commercial district along San Anselmo Avenue got its start in pretty much the same exact location where it stands today. San Anselmo has the classic "Marin County downtown", which is perfect for shopping, strolling, and dining. About the biggest store in town is an Andronico's supermarket. There is also a large antique center. San Anselmo is also home to the San Francisco Theological Seminary. San Anselmo shares a school district with Fairfax (the Ross Valley district), and then kids move up to Drake High in the Tamalpais District. Generally, the schools are ranked in the 90th percentile, statewide. Lacking the big businesses to give itself a strong tax base, San Anselmo shares a fire department with neighboring Fairfax, and runs a frugal operation at city hall. San Anselmo is located between Ross and Fairfax.
