Redwood Shores is a very popular district within the city of Redwood City. Redwood Shores is home to several high tech firms, including Oracle, Electronic Arts, and many other major software firms. Redwood City annexed the 4,000 acre area in 1959 and drew up plans to build the Redwood Shores neighborhood. However, development really did not blossom until the 1980's -- thus, the area has much newer homes than in surrounding cities. Hey, wait a minute -- are we in Redwood Shores, or Foster City?! With it's bayside location, its canals and waterways, its parks and open space, its waterfront homes and master planned neighborhoods, its newer construction, the bridges and boats, and even the blue street signs with nautical street names, this place IS "Foster City south"! Indeed, Redwood Shores feels MUCH, much more like Foster City than it does Redwood City. This town was lifted right off the Foster City blueprint -- indeed, some of the actual street NAMES were even "borrowed"! Redwood Shores is in the Belmont Elementary District. In 1997, it opened Sandpiper Elementary School to serve Redwood Shores. Redwood Shores sits just east of Highway 101, separated from the rest of Redwood City by the freeway.
