The Inner Mission neighborhood of San Francisco is also commonly
referred to simply as "the MISSION district". The neighborhood is
bordered by the SOMA to the north, Potrero Hill to the east, Bernal
Heights to the south, and Mission Dolores to the west. The Inner
Mission district of San Francisco is easily one of the most densely
populated neighborhoods of the city. With BART and buses running
right through the Mission, one can easily get by without a car in
this neighborhood -- which is good, because parking is virtually
nonexistent! The housing styles will vary widely throughout the
mission, with apartments, condos, TIC's , townhomes, flats, lofts,
and even single family detached houses to be found. Due to the dense
population, however, single family detached houses are the
exception, not the rule, in the Mission district. The latin
influence in the Inner Mission district has always been present, way
back to the beginning, when Mission Dolores was built by the
Spaniards. In the 1960's, when a new wave of immigrants from Mexico,
central America, and South America came to San Francisco, largely
settling in the Inner Mission district, and again reasserted their
presence in terms of language, food, culture, art, and much more.
The Inner Mission district is one of San Francisco's largest, both
in terms of area and population. In the 1860's, Mission Street, a
plank road that linked the Mission with the downtown area, served as
the main path of development into the neighborhood. Once the
streetcars began running down Mission Street, the warmer weather of
the Mission District attracted many people to move there. Baron &
