Capitola is a small coastal community with a charming downtown area that attracts lots of foot traffic. It also has the largest mall in Santa Cruz County. Originally founded in 1874 as a shipping and farming community, the city was incorporated in 1949. When California became a state, many towns competed for the honor of being the state Capitol. There were also 650 mobile homes. Children in Capitola attend school in the Soquel District, and then move up to Soquel High in the Santa Cruz High district.
